Pessarra Family Gourmet Popcorn Recipes
This year, I tried something new in my garden - growing popcorn. I used organic seeds from Johnny's and planted them in two 18-foot beds, keeping about a foot of space between each plant. Next year, I plan to plant them closer together to hopefully increase the yield.
The results were quite good. I managed to harvest enough to make over 80 bags of popcorn. I planted the seeds in July, after harvesting my spring crops, and collected them in mid-October, just before the first frost. It was important to let the ears dry for three weeks before removing the kernels from the cobs.
It was so rewarding to grow a year's worth of popcorn in our little home garden, interplanted with other vegetables just was beans, vetch, and winter squash.
